The Sharp End

About Me

The world of business is tougher than ever. There is no time to think and organizations and people are rewarded for what they achieve today not what they promise tomorrow. There is hope.

My name is John Dodds. I am a brand and marketing strategist who has spent a lifetime in multinational companies such as Shell, Hutchison Telecom and Air Products.

I have launched brands, I have sold a commodity fuel to the largest shipowners and made a margin. And I have managed the reputations of products and companies.

But most of all, I know how companies work and how they make decisions. It does not matter whether the company is small or large, in the words of Peter Drucker: “Culture eats strategy for breakfast.”

I am a partner who will gain the trust of your organization and work with your team in a non-threatening way to bring a different perspective and unlock your true value without disruption or distrust.

“I have launched brands, I have sold a commodity fuel to the largest shipowners and made a margin. And I have managed the reputations of products and companies.”

I started this business to be the “what if” to companies who need help and are prepared to listen to a different point of view. My true motivation is to find what makes you unique and help you tell your story to your world. That’s what motivates me. It is a puzzle but not an insurmountable one.

Some of my greatest successes have been against the odds. When it didn’t seem possible. And I have some lessons to share when things didn’t go according to plan.

So if the idea of working with a companion rather than a corporation appeals to you, then we both know we have cleared the first hurdle.

“John’s understanding of brands, and his clear-sighted appreciation of the essentials, makes him a perfect partner to work with. His commitment to long-term strategy rather than short-term fixes continues: a vital aspect of building a great relationship that achieves objectives.
